INTOSAI Governing Board Chair meets with UN Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs

Mr Liu Jiayi, Auditor General of China and Chairman of INTOSAI Governing Board met with Mr Wu Hongbo, UN Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs, at the National Audit Office of China in Beijing on February 10th 2015. The UN Under Secretary General was calling on the INTOSAI Governing Board Chair to exchange views on further strengthening cooperation between UN and INTOSAI.

They reviewed the history of successful cooperation between INTOSAI and UN. Mr Liu Jiayi pointed out that in areas such as promoting good governance, transparency, accountability and ensuring sustainable development, INTOSAI will be a constructive partner and is ready to conduct cooperation with UN within the framework of the UN Post-2015 Development Agenda. Mr Wu on his part briefed Mr Liu about the panel discussion recently held in New York and the consensus reached by participating parties. He affirmed that SAIs can play an important role in ensuring smooth implementation of the UN Post-2015 Agenda and UN recognizes the importance for and support the strengthening of SAIs. They also discussed the importance of capacity building in strengthening SAIs.

At the request of Mr Wu, UN Under Secretary, INTOSAI Governing Board Chair Mr Liu Jiayi introduced SAI China's practices and experience in fighting against corruption through auditing efforts. Mr Wu pointed out that the SAIs' efforts in combating corruption and ensuring accountability and good use of public resources for the benefits of citizens is important for improving the framework of the UN Post-2015 Development Agenda. They agreed that INTOSAI and UN should further enhance their cooperation in combating corruption through experience sharing among SAIs and other relevant parties. The National Audit Office of China is willing to play a greater role in this process.

Mr Zhang Tong, Deputy Auditor General in charge of accountability audit also met with Mr Wu Hongbo.
